Bug Poster Clip

Odeum opens the 2010-2011 season with the work of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and Tulsa native, Tracy Letts: Agnes is a divorced waitress with a drug addiction hiding out from her abusive ex-husband, Jerry, in a seedy Oklahoma motel room. Her lesbian friend, R.C., brings soft-spoken Gulf War drifter, Peter, to visit after a night on the town. Peter, having no place to stay, humbly accepts Agnes’ invitation to crash on the motel floor. However, it is not long before Agnes has promoted him to her bed, and their relationship has rapidly escalated beyond the platonic. Matters grow complicated when Jerry – only recently released from prison – locates Agnes and determines to resume their previous relationship. Additionally, an eerie bug infestation has Agnes and Peter fighting welts and sores with ever increasing intensity. Peter believes the bugs to have been planted under his skin during a recent stay at a military hospital facility – an experiment gone awry… Fears escalate to paranoia, conspiracy theories, and twists in psychological motives.

BUG will be directed by David A. Lawrence, and feature Leslie Long and Whitson Hanna.

Miss Julie Poster Clip

Based on the 1888 classic by August Strinberg, Odeum presents Patrick Marber's retelling of an evening in the life of the upper class Miss Julie, set in 1945 England. After begging off of a trip to visit family with her powerful father, Miss Julie finds herself amid the festivities of her family’s servants during their annual midsummer party. Relieved to escape the pressures of high society, Miss Julie mingles among the servants and finds herself drawn to one in particular: the unusually well-read and well-mannered senior servant, Jean. The two quickly find themselves struggling to navigate physical attraction, class barriers, gender inequality, and social paradigms in a twisting, turning battle of love, lust, will, and wit.

AFTER MISS JULIE will be directed by Billie Sue Thompson, and feature Cassie Hollis, Sara Cruncleton, and Will Carpenter.

Reasons to be pretty poster clip

Spring is for lovers, and in this spirit of spring, Odeum revisits Neil Labute’s commentary on modern society’s obsession with physical appearance via the third in his topical trilogy, REASONS TO BE PRETTY. Nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play in 2009, the play unveils the impossibility of love through the lives of four friends/ lovers ascending into discontent with their unfulfilling lives and each other. Greg, though truly, madly, deeply in love with his girlfriend, Steph, makes the cardinal mistake of casually mentioning a minor physical “flaw” or two. From the moment the words slip the tip of his tongue, all hell breaks loose and the impossibility of love rears its ugly head.

REASONS TO BE PRETTY will be directed by Will Carpenter and feature Whitson Hanna, David A. Lawrence, Leslie Long, and Erin Scarberry.

Swimming in the shallows poster clip

Every relationship scenario you can think of, and some you never have, plus questions asked you never knew you needed answered! Girls have their dream wedding, a middle aged couple falls in love all over again, boy meets shark, and – wait… where did the keys to the lawnmower go? Odeum rounds out the 2010-2011 season with this fast paced, quick witted new comedy. Never fear, Odeum sticks to their guns, challenging audiences to a little introspection – and challenging them to do so amid the side-splitting humor and absurd logic of Adam Bock.

SWIMMING IN THE SHALLOWS will be directed by Cassie Hollis.
